One Lone Marked Grave In This Old Planation Cemetery For Enslaved Wimberly Family
In this episode of Adventures into History, join me, Joy, Cecil Young, Cousin Norma, and Hugh Oliver as we embark on a poignant journey to explore a forgotten slave cemetery. Located on the grounds of the Wimberly plantation, this sacred site holds the silent stories of those who toiled and lived under harsh conditions.
Among the many unmarked graves, we uncover a rare glimpse into the past-a solitary marker bearing a name, and another with a unique "false crypt," a stacked fieldstone tribute. Such markers are exceptionally rare, serving as poignant reminders of lives often overlooked in history.
As we navigate this solemn ground, we reflect on the importance of preserving these legacies an...

hi robert James Reedy here again. Still watching and still enjoying your videos . Have a bunch of Questions for you and anyone else with an opinion, My youngest son and i are planing a trip to Talbot County this year, if you were on a motorcycle what month would suggest we schedule our trip for. We will be riding from Northern California..My first thought was September as it looks like it starts to cool down abit there. But the graphs ive been lookin at also show that sept is historicly a pretty heavy rain month. So im thinking October. is there something i am missing here?. Or am i thinking right? Also what do you think the odds of us getting up to the Reedy cemetary on harleys? Thanks again for the great videos.

It’s so sad that only one marker is engraved. It kinda breaks my heart that these men, women n children lived a life that’s not recognized. Life was so unfair back then n even today it can be. Thanks Robert ♥️♥️😊👍👍👍👍🌟

My free ancestors came to GA in 1803. No one can locate their graves. I, among so many others, love this channel and all the history Robert brings. At the same time, I hope folks realize that it's not just many of the enslaved ones whose graves and history cannot be found, but other pioneers as well. I'm not saying this to be mean or insensitive in any way. Just citing truth that in this day and age is often overlooked. I don't mean to be offensive.

One of my favorite videos of this kind! For some reason it made me wonder: Are there any drawings of places like these in existence?? That would be so awesome to see! I thought maybe this having been a locally, well-known family there might be something in a museum somewhere. Or, maybe you historians could use your collective knowledge and imaginations to recreate for us what this plantation might have looked like. Although, I must say this site is more easily imagined for me than most. I assume that is because it hasn't been logged.

As you are pointing out the old graves. Do you stand at the top or the side of the hill along down across all the grave sites. Why not take a long some wire and flags. Something like they mark utilities out with. Mark all the graves that you come across in an old cemetery. Turned around to take an awesome picture to see how many of them are. As you point out, graves are hard to pick up on the video and a picture. But with the marking the flags, looking back across the forest, you would be able to see your mark graves, quite obviously.
